666/766 weight September 05, 2012 03:50PM
I am wondering what weights I could get either of these two tractors down to. The 666 will go lighter than the 766, but how light has anyone seen these two models go?

Re: 666/766 weight September 05, 2012 05:41PM
with aluminum and 18.4s a 666 should get 5000

Re: 666/766 weight September 06, 2012 03:51AM
5000 is the extreme low end on the 666. For comparison, my 686 diesel is the same basic tractor. With a wide front, cast wheels, 18.4-38, fenders and 3-pt, ready for the farm it weighs 8000. I have pulled it years ago with pressed steel 38's. narrow front, otherwise ready for the field at 7000. The 766 is gonna struggle to get below 9500 in stock trim. Narrow front, pressed wheels, and stripped, but able to be put back together you may get to 8000. If turning them back to a farm tractor is not needed, another 1000 can be lost pretty easily.

I have a 656 rearend, chrome molly frame, 466 block, single charger, 4.1, 30.5's and I come in at 5665 pounds bare.

Have a 560 rearend aluimiun top deck cover lightweight fenders light frontend custom made rack an pinion steering Midwest rear rims 18.4 x 38 dt 466 p-pump front skis 2-bar rollcage lightest we can get it with watchin fluid levels 5300 lbs .We took a 766 couple years back triked it press steel 18.4x38 no rockshaft we had it 8600 lbs u can lose more with a tin nose guttin internals i believe 7500 can be reached with a big wallet

I know of a 766 that pulls 7500 farm stock around here and it doesn't have a lot of money in it. 560 NF, fiberglass nose, aluminum fenders, steel wheels with 18.4x38s, no 3-pt and the top of the hyd. is off. It barely makes 7500, maybe 50 lbs. to play with and the driver is pretty slim.

There is a 766 that used to run Eastern Iowa in the 6700 lb class and saw a black 1066 on here a while ago that was bare at 6700.

Re: 666/766 weight September 06, 2012 01:53PM
Is that 5250 with a tube chassis or ag chassis?

Re: 666/766 weight September 06, 2012 02:29PM
Several ag chassis IH tractors pulling with ISP LSS 706 rear ends 400 series engines 200# movable weight at 6000# one 666 with much more movable weight in the same 6000# class

Re: 666/766 weight September 06, 2012 02:56PM
6 inch channel from front to rear axel housing

Re: 666/766 weight September 07, 2012 09:45AM
Aluminum channel I would imagine ?

Re: 666/766 weight September 07, 2012 02:03PM
so if you ran channel from front to rear axle are you running a 3 speed gear box or the stock transmission? I am in process of building a 666 and want to know how light I can get it with a 466 and ag chassis with T/A delete and stock transmission,24.5X32's and a custom light wide front end, binder lite grill and fenders, haslag cage. Thanks

Re: 666/766 weight September 07, 2012 02:52PM
No aluminum ,steel and yes a 3 speed profab

Re: 666/766 weight September 07, 2012 02:55PM
an ag chassis can still have a full tube frame or wedge/channel frame. an ag chassis just means that it's a tractor rearend with the stock transmission HOUSING. what gears (or gearbox) you put in that housing are up to you. some guys run tie bars and some like full length frame rails but it can all still be done with an ag chassis. Covered in Red is an ag chassis with full length frame rails, but still an ag chassis. they cant remove the trans housing and its not a component tractor (truck rear end), they arent legal for his class. with money alot of work alot of aluminum and some serious grinding a 666 or 686 should make the mid to high 4's with a 300 series engine and the right tires.

This is the Tomah 5000 pound class in 1982! multi chargers and 30.5 tires 200 lbs of movable weight and that was in 1982!!!! imagine how light you could build one today (even with a cage)!!!!

Cool video !! I seen Bad News-Kieth and Billy Long

Re: 666/766 weight September 07, 2012 03:22PM
Sorry I guess maybe I should have stated stock and not ag chassis. Stock frame rails for now, cage, T/A delete, binderlite grill & fenders, front axle looks like an Ace Chassis unit with rack and pinion steering, 466 and 24.5 x 32 SAT's. I will be running the factory transmission also.

Re: 666/766 weight September 07, 2012 03:57PM
Honestly, I didn't even think about how much moveable weight he had. How did you pick up on that? I didn't notice it when I put that video up.

It kind of makes you wonder what kind of rides would come out if they went back to a 5000# super stock class. 6200 isn't really "light" anymore is it? It's more of a middleweight class these days since the heaviest ag-style tractor class is at 10,000#.

What a great video some real history in it . i remember when the light supers were thick as super farms ,We went to Purde one time and saw over 35 entries.
