What trucks where sqhd's in??

Re: sqhd September 10, 2012 12:52PM
semi trucks.
The rear rear of tandems.
34,000 lb ones were under Chevrolet and GMC and have slightly thinner wall material.
Aluminum drop outs were USUALLY on trucks with aluminum hubs, especially IH with the aluminum spoke wheels.
You will find that finding an unbroken one is rare. Pocket bearing for the pinion is usually broken, but can be welded back up and used, just fine.
The coolest aluminum drop out comes from the Humpco shop! Billet! and can be had with a reverser built right in. Just call Bill with your credit card number and he will put on the list. You might have it in time to go pulling next spring, IF you order (and pay) today.
If you have room for a little more weight, look for a Merritor 20-145. They also have aluminum drop outs available, ring gear and pinion is a tad more beefy. Aluminum drop outs more found in Freightliners.

Thanks... I have a 1978 freightliner to scrap out. I haven't got under it yet to see what it might have. It has a cummins 903 v8 if anyone is interested in that.
