fuel line plumbing September 24, 2012 12:05AM
What size fuel supply line should I run from my tank to the draw side of my belt drive Aviad pump. 540 Light pro diesel

#12 minimum, or better yet, #16. If you draw a vacuum on diesel fuel, it aerates. Air will compress (fuel won't) and will mess up your injection.

Guess i'd better weld a bigger fitting in my tank. Its only an 8 coming out.

You mean air can actually be drawn into the fuel and cause like a cavitation in the system??

We run everything in #12 or 3/4.
Be sure to put a ball valve close to your tank outlet so that you can take the system apart for service.

What size line from the Aviad to the injection pump. Is 60 psi enough fuel pressure?

Re: fuel line plumbing September 24, 2012 09:13AM
If you run dual feed to pump, minimum of # 8. 60 psi is good. Don't need more than that if it holds 50 psi going down the track. Volume is just as important as pressure--or more important. If you calculate the amount of time that a pump plunger has to be filled with fuel, you will understand why volume is important.
