It will fit right in however you will have to change the pin height in the pistons to compesate for the longer stroke. Best to bore it if you have a later model block and put 407 pistons in.

i do have a later engine if i bore it do i have to change the sleeves.

I think you'd leave sleeves out of it.

With the 361 having a shorter stroke, you may consider keeping your 361 pistons/sleeves, and just have the tops of the 361 pistons machined to accept the longer stroke of the 407 crank, so the pistons don't smack the head, the difference is stroke is only an 1/8", so the material needed to be removed from the 361 pistons isn't that much, there's plenty there, gives you 371 cubes.

do you also keep the 361 rods. is it worth all the work to get the extra 10 cubes. 407s are getting hard to find and they are expensive to buy. but i did come up with a crank. so i dont know if it is really worth the while.

anbody can put 466 motor in and go pulling, pulling with a 361, or 407 shows PRIDE, and is priceless

we really like the 361s and the 407s and we are trying everything we can to get all the power we can out of our 361 without just putting in a 407. just to see if we can do it we have a 450 roosamaster a 3000 rpm limit and we are running a to4 turbo right now, but we are going to a 3lm. but i would also like to stroke our 361 and put a cam in it, it runs really strong right now but i want more.

We put 4.750 pistons in a 407 came up with 491 cubes. Can't stroke em too much or you will hit the camshaft when she swings around unless you have new rods made. I do have a couple of good 407 blocks I would sell

big401 what are u asking for your blocks and where are you located at.

Probably take $800 for the C4 block and a little less for the C2 block.

Yes we did use a thin sleeve with the 4 and 3/4 bore.

Also have a 407 crank, needs to be reground though.

Couple of other things.

We filled the block solid and ran only water in the head.

Front gear train is a little weak on that motor.

Pistons were from JD 5020 I believe.

To big 407: what type of class did you run in? How big of turbo and pump?

Big 407, Would you mind contacting me through Email about the 407 crankshaft. Heres my Email ihbrad@aol.com. I'm from the west side of Michigan

...and it's not a cookie cutter combo when it's done.

Re: IH 407 crank in a 361 engine October 01, 2012 01:26PM
big 401 when you went with the bigger piston did you use any kind of sleeve, i am now thinking about keeping the stock crank and just putting a 4.5 piston in it and making it a 429ci cutting deeper valve reliefs in the pistons and going with a bigger cam. but what i need to know is if i bore the sleeve will there be enough left. or do i need to remove the sleeves and bore the block.

Re: IH 407 crank in a 361 engine October 02, 2012 01:13AM
You remove the sleeves and bore the block, since you got the 407 crank, just as well put that in and make it 441 ci

Re: IH 407 crank in a 361 engine October 01, 2012 01:31AM
You keep the 361's rods, they're the same as most 407 rods anyways. Yeah, lots of work just for 10 cubes. One thing you can gain by having the pistons machined is you can have deeper valve reliefs machined in the piston, allowing for a lil more cam if you choose to upgrade the cam at the same time.
