i would like to try a direct injection set up on a d 301 and do away with the glow plugs and the pre cups does anyone know how to do this or have any tips

I want to say I remember reading that either the Lussetto's or Nelson's in Western Nebraska had a 460 or 560 Diesel that they did this to way back in the 70's in the lighter super stock class, think they had custom adapters made to allow a different nozzle (maybe like a 361/407 Bosch nozzle??) installed. Next issue they had was keeping the block together, it wanted to blow the crankshaft out of the bottom of the block. I think they figured out how to hold the block together, but it was tedious, and after the last block blew the crank out again, they let that idea go & move on to something else.

We never did run the 560's on diesel, but did have two of them pass through our salvage yard. My dad put a list of people together that he knew that have ran them in the past.

Hagadorn's tractor ended up with Todd Dyer in New York and I believe parts if not the whole tractor is for sale.

While I will not say it's not possible to make the D301 work, you are in for a tough road to make it competitive with the later engines.

Gary Pfeiffer from Vergas Mn had a good set up on direct injection. He ran it for years. competitive in its day. Unfortunately he's not with us anymore.
