8.1 crank in a 466 block October 25, 2012 02:14AM
Can a 8.1 crank be used in a 466 block and what needs to be done to do so? Has anyone done this and how is it working? Thanks for any info.

yup you need to find a machine shop that has a lot of time because the mains need to be ground down to the 466 size about 10 mm smaller. Have done this once worked fine you do get into the softer part of the crank but it worked fine on the mains , had a 3 by 4 turbo open rpms p pump. for the extra displacement its not really worth it better off spending on head, cam, injection and turbo thats were you will make your power

would it be better or worse to line bore to the correct size?

I'm curious why you don't want to use an 8.1 block & which "466" you are wanting to use.

Does the 466 with the crank driven oil pump (7.6L?) have the larger mains?
