Blacktop classes
|
If you could pick 10 to 12 classes for a blacktop pull, what would they be?
Not looking for rules, just weight classes. 2 or 3 heavy turbo farm 2 or 3 Hot farm/open 2 or 3 NA farm and a few antiques |

My opinion is none of the above. I did that once when I pulled garden tractors. No tires left---total waste on everything.please don't go there! |

Personally I think it has less to do with blacktop and more to do with what the local pullers run... though I will say running too heavy, or running too hot of tractors can cause problems getting them stopped. You can run antiques as light as you want and as many classes as you want and they will keep pulling again and again boring everyone else. Put in the required 4020 class and something from 10k to 14k or so. Again, base it on what the locals like to pull |

Why I asked, before a poster is printed, and a sled is booked.
My hope was, to get some input on weight classes. |

We run antiques from 3500-6500 speed 3-8 mph depending on if its stock altered or open
Farm 8000-13,500 speed 5-12mph depending on stock or open The heavier and faster they go the harder it is to stop them. |

5000 & 5500 will be the two biggest antique classes. So depending on if you are going to allow two hooks will determine what weights you will want to run. Try to mix the antiques up a little to take the "bore factor" out. We have usually run 3500,4000,4500,5000,5500 & 6000, but if very many show up it is all day of antiques. Personally I would go 4000,5000,6000 antique. Depending on where this pull is at 7500, 9000, 9500 na farm. or 10,000 if you expect "out of the field" 4020's, 806's. 11,500, 12,000, 12,500,13,000 turbo farm, again depends on your area. 8500, 9000 open farm. Again on your area a 6000 or 6200 anything goes. V-8 tractors, turbo 560's and that type of tractors.
The biggest thing is to know what tractors are in your area. We've been to blacktop pulls all over Southwest Wisconsin, things that work at some don't work at others. Time of year, day of week, starting times all play a big part. Friday nights are hard if you start to early for the guys that work, start to late and you'll see the sun rise. |

Not many places pull wide open on blacktop like Blair,Wi. Most of the "open" classes most places pull around 10 or 12mph. Don't know who you are OLDMH, but I think you have been in the heart of blacktop pulling country and have a good idea what's been going on. You probably know a couple of people you could call that have put on 1 or 2 blacktop pulls that could help you out. |

Thank all of you, for your thoughts on class weights.
I almost hate to ask however, speed board or pace tractor? |

Speed board, no bumps. 5mph pace, board reads 5.1 at end your dq. Just makes it simple and takes the human error out. |

most sleds have their own board. if you chose to go with midwest sled, their board is set up to dq if you go over for so long. its a great and easy set up |

Blacktop legend?
|
I have heard legend of pulling high(er) end prostock 4x4 trucks with drag slicks on blacktop in Wisconsin. Heard it in SW Missouri from a guy we used to call Joe Wisconsin (don't remember his last name). He said he was a part of it. Did that really happen? Does it still happen anywhere in Wisconsin? Just curious. |
