1070 case transmission any alternatives
|
Thinking about buying a 1070 case tractor to pull. What is the best option to get rid of the powershift? It will not be a farmstock tractor. Are there any options. Thanks
*Sorry about the mis post in the forsale section, wasnt paying attention. |

Go to a 1175, that is a gear transmission |

Myself personally unless weight is not an issue I would go with a 930 or1030 rearend, much lighter very heavy built still capable of a 15" clutch. The 8 speed rearend for the 70 series are harder to come by, and the 930/1030 rearends are virtually the same as the newer 70 series there is minimal retrofit to put the 70 fenders on the 30 series rearend |

the 30 series rear-end is a bit slower gearing too. get a 8 speed 970 or 1070. i pull a 1070 8 speed in pro-farm, can get down to 9200 lb. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/23/2012 02:37AM by kbcase1070. |

Stay away from the 1175 too heavy. If tou think you may dyno find a 70 series rearend easier to dyno BUT if your going to go light weight the 30 series top load is nice and the dyno thing can be addressed while putting together. Where are located might have one for sale. Good Luck |

It might be a heavier transmission, but it has a much more durable rear-end. An 1175 is the way to go. I've got one all ready to go.. call me if you're looking to buy one: 1.616.293.9443 -Brian |

1175 rear is no more durable than a 9-1070 8 speed. They have the exact same shafts, speed gears, and entire housing is actually the same, and once the differential is properly needled neither is better than the other. The only difference is 1175 has heavy outboard planetaries and therefore faster range gears and ring-pinion set to get the same speed. Three disadvantages are the extra weight, you cant get as narrow a wheelbase as a 70 unless you dont mind the planetary sticking past the tire, and less tire wheel change options as you cant just slap a 9 bolt wheel on it. A 75 rear may allow your motor to lug more but a 70 rear will put more horsepower to the ground. 1175 is not the way to go in any lighter, speed related class. |

Does anyone know what percentage the speed changes are when 30 series range gears
are put in an 1170-1175 (high range) where the low is in the 70s? |
Re: 1070 case transmission any alternatives

know it little
|
It is about a 1/3 slower not qutie 1/2 until you get to 4th then they are not very far at all like a tooth or two. |

If you put 1070 high range in place of 1175 low you will have a 1.5% jump from 7 to 7.5 (if you want to call it that) then almost 16% jump from there to 8th. It is exactly opposite putting 1175 high in 1070 low.16% to the half gear then 1.5% to 8th. |

Would the 930-1030 axles fit on a 1175?. That would eliminate the planets. |

They will fit, the rearend housings themselves are all but identical, but its a little more complicated than just bolting them on. Ring and pinion, side and bull, and range gears are all faster in 1175 to make up for the slow planetary. So all this would need changed as well. There is also a thick steel plate between the axle housing and transmission housing that runs up behind the side gear carrier on 1175 as well, this cannot be used with the 30 or 70 axles. So when all this is changed you are right back to a 9-1030 or 9-1070 rearend. Not saying it cant be done its just alot more difficult and its not ideal. |

Are the range gears the same on a 1030 and an 1170?
The online parts book I am looking at says they are; Drivers low range 21 tooth high range 41 tooth Driven low range 29 tooth high range 44 tooth The 930 shows a 18 tooth drive for low range and a 35 tooth high rangs but does not tell about the driven, |

1030 and 1175(1170) are not the same. Early 930 had a 35-35(1to1 ratio) high range but they were helical cut like the low range set and not really good to use when pushing a lot of power. |

I am in east tn, the one has a 504 from a 2470, aluminum fenders looks like a 1030, homemade front end, will pull in the 6 with the right driver. Other is just the rear and trans will look tomorrow as to which trans. Take the one out of the tractor for 1000.00 or sell the one laying beside the shop for 450.00. There is also a 400 rear and trans available for 350.00, plus a 900 with a stuck motor for 1500.00 but it has a hand clutch. Good luck in your hunting. |

Resurrecting an old thread here, but I have the chance to get an 8-speed out of an 870. Is this the same 8 speed they put in the 970/1070?
I've got a 970 and a 1370 (504) that I want to take the powershifts out of. Thanks. |

Your best answer would likely come from calling the Haug's, owners of Elmer's Repair in Centralia Kansas. It is a huge Case and IH salvage yard. If you do not recognize their name, they pull two Case LSS's on PPL national circuit. The personable Elmer and his 2 sons know Case inside & outside, as the expression goes. |

In the parts book the 4 speed and high low range look to be the same. The rear end parts are lighter, the differential is a 3 spider, the bull pinions dont have the extra bushing on them, the bull gears are narrower, the ring gear and pinion shaft are lighter. Hope this helps:} |
