5.9 head bolts November 24, 2012 10:25AM
What other recomendations are there for head bolts or studs for a 5.9 cummins, at 3000 rpm and 40 psi boost? low buget puller, just checking options as ARP studs are kinda pricey.

Nothing wrong with the stock head bolts ive ran the same set 3 years 50 to 60 pounds of boost up to 5400 rpms. And ive never blew a headgasket i would recomend firerings in the block that dont cost much

is a marine gasket any better than stock or fire rings?

With your goals stock head bolts should be fine. Most guys can get 40-45psi with stock head bolts.

Stock head bolts will not work with fire rings. They do not have enough strength to properly crush the fire ring. Same goes for ARP 2000s.

Extreme-studs is the most cost effective option at this time for someone going beyond what stock bolts or the lesser of the ARPs.

A1 Technologies

Available through Haisley Machine.

These are what I use for head and main studs on almost all of our builds.
I've never had a fastener from them fail.

Bob, I think you'll end up with more than 40 psi boost! lol!
