Can someone tell me of any down sides to building a 1086 verses a 1066. Looking to go into 8000#-10500# classes |

seating position is clumsy on an 86 series open station, or with a cage. |

1086 will have larger diameter rear axles than a 1066 will, that'll make a 1086 heavier to start with. |

Only a select few late model 1086's will have larger axles, just depends on your rules, but with a light front end and removal of all the xtra parts and cast pieces, you could get a 66 series for sure to fit this. |

I have a 1977 1086 sitting in the shed 25' from me that has the big axles, definitely not a late model. |

been there and done that !!! 1086 does have larger axle, wider bull gears and the platform make it 1 few hundred
pound heavier than the 1066. also has wet brakes, which are exteremly touchy on the track. I did have a problem with the wet brakes dragging also. wheel rolled free when tractor was not running, but when idling could not roll tire when jacked up. disc brakes fixed that. it also is slightly more work when doing tranny work. have heard tranny and rear end castings can also vary in weight, but that may be any model. |
