Speed up IH transmisson January 01, 2013 10:30AM
I have a IH 766 with stock gears and want to speed it up. Can I change the constant mesh gear or do I need more? 4th high is not fast enough

use a gas ring gear and pieon shaft from a 706 or 806 and delete the ta. fourth high will be 20% higher. requires a lot of hp to run up there good luck

You can speed up your constant mesh which will make gears 1-3 faster. You can also shove a faster gear in the transmission. Wipeout has a good gear calculator spreadsheet that helps figuring out ratios and such

Anyone know the tooth counts or ratios for a gas and a diesel ?

Re: Speed up IH transmisson January 03, 2013 12:07PM
For diesel ring gears there's a 12/49, 13/51, 13/49, (roughly 4% difference between each) and a 16/49.

And how about gas ring and pinions? Anybody know?

Re: Speed up IH transmisson January 06, 2013 01:54PM
If I remember correctly 706, 806, and 766 gas tractors as well as all 756s have 13/49 ring and pinions.

Can't speak about the others, but not all 806's had a 13/49. Some had a 12/49.

Did the diesel 806's have the 12/49's?

It was a serial number break when the 806's changed from the 13/49 ring & pinion to the 12/49 ring & pinion. 23000 seems to be the s/n break for Farmall 806's
