detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt February 12, 2009 02:58AM
Would it be legal? since agco baught em out? I understand people get mad about mixing up engines and sheet metal but if you didnt allow that youd only see the same ole sheet metal. just my idea. But everyone has there own opinion!

I heard a story Drinkin beer in some buddys shop that Oliver made a Super 99 and it had a V 6 detroit in it and it ran really good!

4-53 March 14, 2009 02:07PM
It was a Detroit but only a 3-53 the 1900 had a 4-53 nothing close to a 6-71

Re: 4-53 March 14, 2009 04:01PM
You're close, the super 99 and the 990 carried a 3-71, the 1900 and 1950 carried the 4-53

Re: 4-53 March 15, 2009 02:44PM
I never said it wus a 6-71 I said it wus a V-6 Not sure what size it wus! If my memory serves me correctly they made a V6-71 And a 6V-71! But i could b wrong! How small of a V6 did they build? How many RPM does a stk V6 Detroit turn? Thanks Tim

Re: 4-53 March 16, 2009 12:05AM
Smallest V-6 Detroit 6V-53 (318 cubic inch) turns around 2500 rpm stock

Re: 4-53 March 16, 2009 05:39AM
Also Oliver, Moline, nor Cockshutt never produced a tractor with a v-6 detroit. Went through this about two years ago. The folks at the Floyd County museum have all the records from the factory there and none were produced.

Re: 4-53 March 16, 2009 05:39AM
It isn't a V anything in that series of Oliver, only V configuration in an Oliver (stock) was the Cat 1160/3208 in the 2255.
The 4-53 and 4-71's are INLINE engines, not V. There are 6-71's and 6V-71's, the V denoting V configuration.
They ALL leak oil profusely.

If I understand the original post the question is about a 40 Series which is a 466cid 6 cylinder diesel available in some AGCO tractors, I had a similar thought about a 5.9 Cummins engine as they were also used in some AGCO tractors - wouldn't both of these be considered OEM replacement engines? Guess it all depends on what the rule says or sometimes what it doesn't say.

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 16, 2009 01:33PM
The series 40 IS a IH engine rebadged as Detroit series 40. This opens up a new can of worms for those that have had trouble keeping up with the "Red Edge"

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 16, 2009 05:32PM
The 40 is not a rebaged 466. Its a knock-off LOL. Have 2 of them I hope to get them in a nice orange lss soon.

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 17, 2009 05:22AM
This is correct - it is not the Navistar 466.

Sorry I stand corrected.

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 22, 2009 05:44AM
so no one answered my question. They say it has to be a replacement but think of it this way. The shot gun red tractor is going to be running a 8.3 cummins. I believe its the 8.3, thats a international with a case ih engine. If cockshutt, white, oliver, and moline are all owned by agco now then wouldnt it be legal, im not trying to start an argument just wanting to know. No one has answered my question.

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 22, 2009 11:59AM
Would say your more likely to be able to use a 505 Cummins than the Detroit. White bought out Oliver and used their transmission and rearend with a Cummins in front of them. The Detroit is allowed as a replacement block for the 426 Allis block. Do not think it was ever used in a Agco tractor.

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 22, 2009 12:15PM
In addition, the Detroit Series 40 is what you get when you ask for a new 426 at your AGCO dealership; thus paving the way for it to be legal. "Technically" you can upgrade sheetmetal, but not engines so the Cummins in older sheetmetal would be illegal - but they don't seem to enforce that rule, otherwise you'd never see a 1206 with a 466 in it.

That said, I'd like to see what's being proposed to bring in some color.

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 22, 2009 12:20PM
Nothing is being proposed to bring color in not my the mighty NTPA they like red and green.

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 22, 2009 02:32PM
Actually, yes the detroit WAS used in Agco tractors, but the current motor offered is the Sisu, which Agco owns. Call Elvin Domann, Agco has deemed the big Sisu (cant remember CI.), the 8.3 Cummins and the 40 series Detroit as acceptable replacement engines by their standards. Also, later on, can't remember which series but can look it up, Agco had Deutz engines in front of the White rearends with orange tinwork....

Re: detroit 40 series in a oliver,moline, cockshutt March 23, 2009 12:35AM
If you are running a White hood The later one ran 5.9 cummins on mid size tractors. 8.3 cummins on the large frame tractors. Orange Agco tractors used Duetz with White frame and rears on early models.
