What would work better for a llss. 560 rearend or 656 rearend? Looking at 360 on alcohol for power plant!!

Not that I am an expert, but both chassis have their advantages. 560 bellhousing is cheaper to adapt to, but a 656 is a stronger foundation to build from. I have a 656 rearend with a torque eliminator already installed built by Terry Blackbourn and a dt-360 truck engine set in place. In all honesty, it is a project that I have put together out of boredom, but has infinate potential. If you would like to pick up where I left off, give me a call. 608-317-7322. Just off the cuff, I believe the 560 and 706 carriers are of the same mold, but the triple six carriers wont interchange. They also have their own sets of ring and pinions that are unique to that particular chassis.

No. According to Degenhardts, the 656 666 686 rearend is heavier an the carrier area and is a better choice for someone looking to build the lighter chassis. They have owned an IH dealership for decades and have pulled light superstock for many years. They have always used the 656 rearends for that reason. I cant say that my information is gospel, but thats what Bill told me. Terry Blackbourn would be another good source of info on this.

Both rears work well, But most of the LLSS guys in KY that are running 560 can run a stock trans set up (with gear set) and the 656 guys have went to po fab set up. Seems to me that the 560 trans might be stronger, also th 560 has a bigger bellhousing so you can run a bigger clutch.
