Pit Vehicles February 15, 2013 04:24PM
Looking for ideas on Pit Vehicles.. What ideas do yall have for a budget puller?? (Yes a UTV would be handy but is out of my budget) Seen some guys use compact 4x4 suvs... What rigs have some of yall built? Ill be towing around an 8000lb diesel truck..
Figured a quad would be too light.. Thoughts??

Thanks

seen a fella use a used smart car last year with great success , had enough room in back for a battery pack ,some tools and fuel, cost a fraction of a utv!

I'd think a older jeep would be a good choice. Toss out the old rusty body and slap on a new fiberglass one and you still would have a cheap tow vehicle.

Geo tracker real cheap 4x4 same size a one of those high priced utility vehicles

A geo tracker or Suzuki Samaria would be good and you can drive to town for parts if yu have to. Just make sure if you go with a small SUV make sure it has a transfer case with a low range. A jeep liberty works good but a little more money.

This is what we use and it works very well!

I've seen people use 4 wheelers and they all seem to struggle with traction. (Not enough weight) A Polaris ranger or John Deere gator is wat I believe is the best option! It has a bed for tools and extra weight if needed.

you could get an antique tractor fairly cheap, easy to find, and mount equipment on the sides of the frame if you have trouble finding a geo or samurai. haven't seen many of either for sale around here.

I dont think its the power, its the weight

Re: Pit Vehicles February 22, 2013 12:24AM
What about a chopped down ranger or s10? You can find a 4wd pretty cheap and should have plenty of power and traction to move a truck around.

What's ur opinion on on 4x4 four wheeler. Would it have enough power to pull a 9500 lb hot farm tractor around the pits.

Re: Pit Vehicles February 23, 2013 10:21PM
You would prob have the same trouble i will.. a quad just isnt heavy enough to handle some of the terrain we will see.
