In my opinion, it can be done. Whether or not you will be successful with it depends a lot on horsepower. A much better alternative for you would be to switch over to a John Deere rod. It is the same length as the IH 407 rod and would be 100% better than taking even more material out of the piston pin area on a 407 rod. I have a set of deere rods that would work perfectly for you that are already machined and clearanced for the IH crank. They are fitted with standard bearings as well. Ready to install for $1000. You remove the bushing and pin hone the rod end and run it without a bushing. Works fine

There is the same amount of material in a small pin 407 rod as there is in a large pin.

i am building a 361 on alcohol for the llss does anyone no of a longer rod that would work to get rid of the tall pin hieth on the piston plans are 41/8 stroke 43/8 bore the rod journel could be a lot smaller to make destroking a lot cheaper any help would be appreciated had deutze rods in my cummins thanks
