checking cam timing on a dt436,,, January 05, 2017 04:05PM
Hello, I am working on a DT436 that is in a 1066, The engine runs but has no power and makes a lot of black smoke with no load on it. It runs like its not getting enough air. Checked the basics but not finding much wrong. So is there a way to check the cam timing without pulling the front cover off the engine? The engine was bought used and has had this problem since installed in the tractor.

Have you done a compression check? If timing is that far off I would think it it would show up there.

Are you just wanting to check the timing marks or use a degree wheel?

Grab an I T Manual and in it you will find how to check cam timing with a feeler gauge it is pretty simple to do.
