Ford 8000 swap to 456 genisis February 17, 2009 10:51AM
I am looking for any info on putting a 456 motor in my 8000 Ford some people say its very expensive and you have to lose gears but I figure where there is a will there is a way!

if you use the 456 with the 6 bolt flywheel then you can use your original 8000 flywheel too, now if you are using your 8000 front end,you will either have to space it forward to clear the oil pan or modify it by switching from the steering gearbox to a hyd. cylinder on the axle, etc. good luck!

Any one said its hard never looked at it. Use the 401 oil pan re do the pickup tube for the pump. like Jim said if you use the 456 lower horse power it has a 6 bolt crank.

You would be way far better off with the 456, better head, better block, 100 times better oiling system and you will probably be closer to what your competition is running for cubic inches.

Re: Ford 8000 swap to 456 genisis February 19, 2009 12:53PM
Do you have a cube limit? I dont know what others think but I took my 401 to 476 for right around $1000 and can take it over 500 for the same money, runs good and I even used the old bearings, she turns right around 4000rpm without thinking about it . Your gona pay up words of 1200 for a genisis block to 4500 dollars for a take out you do the math .If you stay with the 401 you will not have to do any fixin to get it bolted in . Just depends on how much money you want to spend. I put a genisis oil pan on my 401 and had to grind the cast where the pan fit up in to get it to fit. the only other thing I done was had to drop a sump in the pan for the pick up tube.

my question is how much will the 401 take? I am just thinking about putting a TO4 turbo on it for now and letting my girlfriend pull it in farm class for now.

if thats all your gonna do the 401 will get you by but if your ever thinking bout going pro farm or hotter i wouldnt think twice a bout putting in the genesis engine. its p10x the engine and is simple to put in. and if you look around you can find them for$1500 or less. we have a genesis in an 8700 chasis and it was a fairly simple swa

Well you guys are all fairly close but you do have some mis information. it will bolt right in and you can use your stock oil pan off you 8000 all you need to do is buy a factory pick-up tube, you don't have to space anything it will bolt up factory. All your front covers and plates will work the only modifications you willneed to grind the waterpump and the front of the cylinder head if you choose to use the stock water pump. You need to use a 6 bolt crank with the old style gears on the front that came in the 40 series engines 8240 or 8340. you also need to use a 40 series oil filter base and a tw 30 oil filter unless you want to notch your frame rails. You need to exchange the bolts out or the rear main seal cover with standard bolts so that your rear plate will mount. The engine will fit in there and look factory and will use the stock power steering pump and gear. I have all the brand new cranks anybody wants for $1500.00 and I have them in the box brand new. I also have the new style power steering gears if you have the 11 degree teeth and want to run power steering. 717-729-5045
