3500 rpm timing? June 24, 2013 02:30AM
All my prior experience with engine tuning has been with open rpm engines so I'm lookin for a little advice.
About to set the timing up on a BBJD with a relatively stock 50series 619. Has a 3.6 charger, port water injection, 13mm P3000, .120 lines, 5x26 injectors.
I think that I should be in the 28°-32° area, but a friend and local puller thinks I may want to rethink that, the idea being that running a little less timing on a governed engine will give it a bit more bottom end.
What say you?

It ultimately will depend on a lot of things in your setup including injector spray angles and pump delivery rates as well as compression and piston bowl design. The only way to get it right would be on the dyno, but it is most likely going to be best someplace between 30-35deg for a 3500rpm motor. If it doesn't have an intercooler that 3.6 charger is probably going to be a little big for it to lug much anyways.

would this be by timing at port closure or with a light? my light vs port closure numbers are about 10 degrees different.
