9500# Pro Field 466@3500rpm vs 640@3000rpm January 08, 2019 12:00PM
Looking to buy a tractor for our local 9500# Pro Field class. You can run either a 466 and smaller @ 3500 RPM or 467+ @ 3000 RPM. Wondering which combination will yield more power? Mike

In an association near me the 466's at 3500 rpms are beating up on the bigger cubic inch tractors at 3000 rpms..

The bigger cube engines will walk all over the 466 if they know what they are doing and are running same rpm. Remember there is no replacement for displacement. You can't take a 466 and run with bigger cube engines.

Just curious if anyone has any hard facts and knowledge on comparison between big engines vs. Smaller? I've heard of this phenomenon However don't know if any of it is true?

The no replacement for displacement thought process went out the window a long time ago.it was popular before the days of good airflow and good camshaft tech.since much better cam profiles and port technology has moved from bigger cfm to increased air speed the lazy big cu.in will always lose to a well fed smaller cu.in every time

Still believe rule of no replacement for displacement have cams design really came that far for a 466 rpm class to really make up the difference of as much as almost 200 cubic inches for a class that’s been around for awhile

Those extra 500 rpms sure make those 466's run good in a Pro Field class....

Is Burkhardt 640 or 466 with the Git-r-Done tractor? That's an unbelievably competitive red one in a 640 class.

If a 466 can out run a 640 or even a 619 then why even have 640 Super Farms etc.. I may have seen it or even done it a few times but not if the 600 + has done their home work. What I see in my region is light limited 466 motors and SF 600 motors running in the pro-field/farm and hot farm classes. Remember you can do all the things patches is saying on a 600+ motor too.

always going to be some small engines beating up on a bigger motor,but when the same things are done to the bigger cubic inch,-- not so much,more power means more driver skill required,so not always power to win,set up,skill,-- luck for sure,I have pleanty of power to win,-- just don't drive it up to full potential.My SBC is tough to beat,most big blocks don't have enough,but the ones tuned like mine have a torque advantage,but I am lucky to drive and put weights better. LOL

I know of some 466s in Missouri that run very well against bigger engines.

I’ve seen it done also but with intercooler on 466 vs no cooler on big cube but still depends on rules for club your pulling with turbo water etc

I know,and are the susopedly 466 really that size ????????????????????? Not much more to make bigger on initial go round,many are oversize for sure,rules are made to be broken -- sorry to say. I Know ----- one bad "apple" in the barrell.

Plumkrazy , one should be careful about accusations regarding anothers ride. Let's just say you should put your money where your mouth is and put up the $1100.00 protest fee! Then I warn you that you should also be prepared to lose that $1100. So make sure you take extra money with you for gas money so you can get back home. Be smart and save your money.

1st off I didn't say you "mentioned anyone specifically".
2nd, where did I say I was so special, and that no one ever cheated?

4th, how do you know that I am a sir?
5th, all I was saying was just because some people cheat, that doesn't mean that everyone does. So basically I was letting you know that if you are so certain that one is cheating, that you should put up the money to find out but I was also kind enough to let you know that you should be prepared to lose your money.
