Yea if you are searching for the 55 series 466 low ring piston. Piston is re57731 and the application was for a 4955/4960. |

Just asking
|
Isn’t the low ring supposedly better? |

Yes because it handles heat better and you have room to cut valve reliefs, where on the high ring there is very little room between top ring and top of piston |

Was hoping to find a low ring that fits in the 40 series block. Will a 7.6 sleeve for the 4955,4960 fit the 466 block? |

Sleeves from a 7.6 will drop right in, but I don't think the piston pin diameter on o a 40 series is the same as a 7.6 |

Use 55 or 60 series rods, pistons, and sleeves. will all work in 466 block. |

Near as I can tell from the JD website the wrist pin, snap ring and bushing are the same. And the 40 series rod is listed for the later also. |

Talked to a former JD shop foreman and he seems to remember the rings were moved up to make them start better. |

The 55 series rod has to be used to fit the 55 series piston due to the way the piston is built. But I have a 4440 engine tore down that has unknown brand aftermarket kit. But it still has 40 series rods with low ring Mauhle pistons. What’s the deal with that? What engine or kit did they copy? And who did it? |

4440 pistons are low ring, there is like 1/2” to 3/4” from top of piston down to top of first ring; on 55 series high ring it is about 1/4” |

4010 Puller. Are you sure you didn't post that backwards? Every one tells me the 40 series is high and the 55 is low.
Thanks |

4010 puller is correct. If it helps, I had a 7.6 out of a 9965, it came stock with high ring pistons. I traded them out for a set of 40 series, they are low ring and you have room to cut valve reliefs. just as stated above. |
