Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 03, 2013 09:29AM
I realize you have a good org and I've seen it many times but two things bother me do your small cube tractors with out a turbo feel it is fair to put turbo tractors with them (for example the 4010 with the 450 ) does that encourage turbo charging everything to compete or does it just tell the boys and girls that are learning how to pull to stay home because they are not going to compete anyway? question one.. Does your crowd other than me get tired of red and green, the answer would be in the fans not the pullers perspective and that answer is in the amount of people that attend the pulls, that stated I thought it was a little light on spectators? question two...

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 06, 2013 03:43AM
I have been pulling in the area for quite some time now. I have pulled the same tractor since the beginning, a non turbo JD 4010 and in the beginning I was able to compete and even won a few times. Now I understand that if you have the money and would like to spend it on your hobby that you are entitled to do so but here is my issue. I maybe do have the money to spend on the upgrades to compete but I have a strong sense of sentimental value with the way my tractor is set up and tractor pulling is essentially a parade for me. I know that I am not going to win and I honestly don't care at all I just like to see my tractor all washed and waxed up and doing a sweet wheel stand for all to see. However, as a result of the GPTP taking over more and more county fair pulls their rules rein over the area and us little guys are getting pushed out. 10,500 No Turbo class is a perfect example, where did that go? Does anyone know how many tractors there are out there that are that sized and don't have a turbo, A LOT! Does GPTP even realize what kind of damage they are doing to the sport and to these events? Regardless of whether I am going to win I would at least like to have a fair chance and me pulling against what GPTP calls a "stock" tractor isn't fair. Stock tractors don't move like that trust me I have a bunch of older Deere's at home on the farm like 4430's 4440 4630 4320 so on.

Your comment about spectators is SPOT ON, but why is that the case? Here's why is somebody really going to pay to go watch somebody they don't know pull a tractor that just blows smoke and goes fast, not a chance. Your spectators have become the families of the pullers themselves who just sit in the pits, don't pay to get in and don't even watch because they have seen it a million times. The local spectators aren't coming because it is no longer their neighbors, grandkids or even kids and that is because GPTP doesn't want those guys who aren't members to come to their pulls and compete. They want membership dollars, and 80 hooks or less a night. When an association whose focus is tractor pulling gets legitimately upset about having a lot of hooks and the pull lasting to long in the night, you're doing it wrong.

With all the above being said I realize that I am extremely biased because of my position of having a tractor which fit into a class that was eliminated, not wanting to pay the outrageous fees to pull at one pull as a non member ($150 for two hooks) along with not wanting to be a member however, the sport was fun when I started and now it is not. Someday when I finally have the money to stick into an open farm tractor I don't know where I will pull if I don't pull with GPTP but I am highly reluctant to join up because it just seems like you can never make them happy without spend boat loads of money and regardless of whether I have the cash flow to do so I'm not sure if that is a good place to put money, in fact I know it isn't. What we do is supposed to be hobby and it just doesn't feel like it is anymore!

couldn't have said it better myself. be patient, great plains is slowly crumbleing, loseing pulls and fans. it'll be over soon. on the plus side theres a great family in the area that has taken the initiative to put together a real pull in Akron IA this Saturday august 10th at 5pm. check it out, bring a tractor and support the true sport. hope to see you there as a spectator or a puller!

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 06, 2013 12:19PM
Only thing I'd add. It is a competition and most ppl treat it as such and want to win and will do what ever to do so.
I'm more of a fan of open tractors than stock, but I grow tired of watching the same tractors every night. That is one thing I like about stock there's a bit more variety.
I do like the power and smoke but also miss the old days when you could see different tractors at different county fairs.

Or maybe I just miss the days when I could compete in open. Either way

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 07, 2013 01:52AM
Akron is my hometown and I have been helping out with the pull. We'll have 3 tractors there. See what kind of hook fees GPTP is missing out on!

Re: GPTP Losing pulls August 06, 2013 01:37PM
Just curious what tractor pulls or towns did they lose?

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 07, 2013 01:09AM
All classes and all styles of pulling have their place.....what some people forget or miss out on is giving everyone the opportunity to get involved and give the fans a bit of everything.
I am a great plains member and don't agree with all rules but I do abide by them, but I am really disappointed in the non-member rule
does anyone recognize these names........ these are just a few names missing from Plymouth County Fair....that's what made it the Plymouth County Fair
Shultz
Herbst
Ritz
Hughes

Moffatt
Hoffman
Kliehauer
Banks

Pay the membership, they could have all pulled, plain and pretty simple!!!

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 08, 2013 01:20AM
typical response from a gptp puller. that same self-centered ignorance is why your hooks and crowd are down. wake up to the big picture.

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 08, 2013 03:22AM

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 08, 2013 02:56PM
No 6 mph all stock classes

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 08, 2013 03:15PM
6 MPH!!! I bail hay faster than that!!! Lol I don't mind a speed limit to keep the not farm stock tractors out, but 6 MPH is just way too slow, more like 10-12 MPH would be about right for me and my tractor, a couple of us were gunna bring up two 4440's (14,500 and 16,500 lbs class) until we heard about the speed limit and they are farm stock tractors, but I guess I'll just leave mine in the shed and hooked up to the shredder

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 09, 2013 12:37AM
If your 4440 is pulling the 16500# class at 12 mph that is far from stock!!!

Hey everyone,

This comment has absolutely nothing to do with what you are talking about but it is connected to the area where my post is concerned with.

The Akron Truck and Tractor Pull was rained out on the 10th and we are doing everything we can to get it rescheduled! Please be patient with us as we do everything in our power to make this show everything it was supposed to be. Thank You to all of the pullers that showed up on Saturday night despite the strong rain chances that were made perfectly clear to us by many forecasts. Should we get the pull rescheduled we would truly appreciate everyone coming back or making the trip for the first time. We have a great atmosphere and great fans here in the Akron community it would be a good time. The Forum topic titled "Rain Date Discussion" is where you can find more information or get a hold of someone from the Akron community they can direct you to a person with quality information.

Thanks for your time and patience

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 09, 2013 12:53AM
Speed limit 6mph all stock classes except duals. This is to keep everyone in line. Run whatever blower or pump or rpms u want. 6 mph is the rule. Sorry if it doesn't work for u. Would like to see some new iron around

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 09, 2013 02:05PM
I was talking more about the 14,500 lbs class around 10-12 MPH not the 16,500, as far as putting 100 ft on me I would like to see that!!! I already put her back to work and she's done pulling for this year, maybe next year you guys could come down here and pull with us or I can make it there next year!!! Gunna go to Dunlap for Jason Hoffman Memorial pull and show support for him and his family and cause they are really good friend of ours!!!

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 08, 2013 02:35PM
Is it true that the Akron pull speed limit for farm stock 4 MPH??

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 09, 2013 12:23AM
afraid you cant compete at 4 or 6 mph? I fail to see how fast you bale hay is related to what you can pull. armchair quarterback? bring em.

Re: Le Mars Ia Great Plains Farm Stock results August 09, 2013 05:38AM
hey sport bring up those 4440s and weight them up theres a red tractor out of southdakota that eats 4440s for lunch and if u could pull within a 100 feet of him someone may even buy ya a beer but i think u will take a spanking then u could go home and hook both back on 2 the shredders and have a good race out in the field LOL Ipull a 4640 that is stock in the15500 at 5nhalf miles an hour and i better be looking 2 shift down b 4 i spin it out
