d282 pulling engine July 28, 2013 03:38PM
I would like to get my 560 down to 7000 lbs farm stock. Cannot run turbo so that is out of the question. I would like to know what I should do to be able to keep up with the rest of the pack.

7000 should be very easy.. What are your rules?

Is it an antique class, and are you required to keep the factory block? If you have to keep the factory/replacement block and no turbocharger, then you'd be better off with a gas engine. A 301 gas will outperform that 282 diesel very easily.

7,000lbs will be no trouble at all, I was able to pull my 560 at 6500lbs with a 358 diesel, all the hydraulics, PTO and a couple weights. When I still had cast rear centers on it, I could only hang one weight at 6500lbs.

I have a 560 down to 5500lbs with a dt4666 in it rollcage custom wide front axle, skis, tie bars an a pretty thick hitch. If you are limited to stock block a 301 will run better than that 282 ever could think of running without spending what the tractors worth on just the 282 head itself they don't flow worth the crap plus its a indirect injection motor which stinks to begin with even though you can convert it to direct .But a hot running 301 will walk all over you even if you had a turbo.Stick with a gas job alot more parts for them too an cheaper to build.Been there done that.
