IH 466 truck rods

International rods

I was wondering if anyone knew how much hp a DT 466 stock truck rod will handle .

Currently engine we are running is IH 525 3x4 harts turbo ., new Schied p7100 inj. Pump along with Schied electric water system , 5x25 injectors
Stock head.. Riverside cam. I'm not sure what the hp is ..but we have clevite H bearings..stock oil pump there is hardly a scratch on them after 20 hooks .
We check them every other year. Also use new stock rod bolts. Right now they are still holding... Just wondering if there is a limit

Helper	Have you ran them with this 525 set up and 3x4 turbo yet or is this a new set up? Are they heat treated or completely stock? 3000 rpm engine or open rpm? How hard is it turning at half track for rpms? Reply Quote

International rods	Yes , have been running this same set up for 2 years. Completely stock truck rods 1986 dt466 engine . Open rpm 4500-4800 on line 3500-3800 under load down track Reply Quote

Helper	I would put a set of hyper bolts or river side bolts in the rods more then anything else. Stay away from the cheap black arp bolts. Reply Quote

Thanks .. I'll gets some rod bolts from riverside... Keep running ...I guess if any thing ..i will no what they will hold when one lets go. But maybe there stronger than most people guess or think .
This is why I love tractor pulling so much.... No Dyno ..for me .. 20 seconds on a prayer ..that you got everything right and it works .
If it does... I tell myself I put that together ! No hot laps .

w.w.i.t.	stock rods will hold to 1100 hp then they bend. found out the hard way on the dyno! Reply Quote

Helper	How hard were you pulling it down when it end the rod at 1100 hp. If it was down in the 2200-2000 range when it was at 1100 I would say yes they will bend but if you keep the power band higher 2800-3500 they will be on. The low rpms are what kill the rods. Reply Quote

Thanks helper . I appreciate the info .. There are so many builder opinions on rods . It baffles me that the bottoms are so tuff on these .
200-300 hp truck engine will take 1000+hp.
Your input I believe may be correct...as I remember a lot of old super stock IH tractors that had stock 436 crank and rods with multiple turbos holding up .
I know I'm flirting with disaster. Was just seeking others experience and input . One things for sure ..my engine doesn't lug down .

Drew	He said the "cheap black ARP bolts", which I would take to mean a 8740 bolt. There are several different grades of ARP fasteners (ARP2000, L19, etc). Reply Quote
