Dana 60 & 14 bolt max HP August 03, 2013 02:34PM
I am building a 4wd puller. Will be 900 horse and 6200lbs. My question is will a dana 60 and 14 bolt rear take the power? What if they are cryogenic treated? Thanks

Dana 60 will work in front just fine but you will need to use something stronger than 14 bolt for rear

You need a Dana 80 or a AAM 11.5. Yes cryo the rear gears and use richmond "PRO" gears in the 60. 35 spline stub shafts in the front and good cromemoly rear shafts. If you use Dana 80 use 37 spline shafts, not 35s.

I'm guessing that your class still limits you to one ton driveline cause they like fixing that stuff all the time.

As one ton said, with one ton only rules, you get to work on lots of broken stuff.
Good rear would be an F106 or an h172.
Best would be SQHD or 20145 centre with 106 or 172 skeins/hubs and TRB, SCS, Pro-Fab shafts.
No performance advantage, you just get to drive the truck more and work on it less.
And you will actually spend LESS money.

Thanks guys. Yes we are limited to 1 ton drivetrain. They call this a street stock class but everyone trailers them in and they are all over 800 horses. I was going to put a 106 in but not allowed. It's BS I know but that is how it is. Thanks again.

The Dana 80 is a good axle, needs some upgrades but it will work well. Must have aftermarket axles. I'd say you'll never twist a pinion off, but keep an eye on the ring gear teeth they will start cracking in time or if abused, just break.

HD 140 came in a one ton and a 106 center section fits in

Our street guys have mostly dana 80's they are making a 1/4 plate rear diff cover. with twin tabs then putting a heim joint and bar out to the outer axle. twin tabs
were the brake panel bolts. Keeps the axle tube from walking forward. This seems to have solved the center of diff frome spreading and blowing all the teeth of the ring gear. most are more of the 4.10 gear style rear ends. After that good axles seem to last.

Dana 60 front centrifical style locker. Then you don't need to lock and unlock the hubs all the time. 70 outer axles.(at least on the right side)
Ran one in ourprostock truck 10 years plus.
A open front diff with weight more on the left corner is good for a novice with a bouncing truck. it will calm the truck down alot. adjust weight until both tires spin out evenly.
