In a 3000 rpm 360 cubic inch limit can a gas motor keep up with diesel? Gas tractors can run 3500 rpm and fuel injection all other rules are equal between both types. I am in the process of building a tractor and was wondering if I had an option for motor type or should just build the diesel and be done.

I would say you have an option the fuel injection will definatly give you a hp increase on the gas, however it will be hard to match the tourqe of the diesel. The gas combination would definatly be a change though as most classes are diesel now.

David I hate to say it but Charlie hasn't had any luck with gas. Diesel is probably your best option.

David don't forget we have that Deere diesel 329 motor. It is apart but it is a complete motor all in the box. Anyone interested can call 573-819-6479 for more infor. David have you thought about a BB Deere at 640 cubes and turn it at a high rpm. Remember no RPM limit on the NA's (at least MMTTPA is no rpm limit and I think MSTPA's is that way, I'll look at rule book to verify). We have one at MMTTPA that isn't near 650 (around 400 I believe) and he is making a very respectable pass.

Your right that he didn't, just thinking it may give a little variety to the class but i suppose green will be a change to. He also never got the fuel injection dialed in prior to losing his motor so I was curious if anyone thought they could keep up.

if you cant run a turbo go diesel or if you want gas a good built 360 cube 4cyl at 3500rpm with some good head work good cam and a heavy flyweal would be pretty tuff and it would have a lot of tourqe

Both can run turbo's of whatever size you can spin, can also run water injection and intercooler's. If i run a gas it would be a 6 cyl but would be 360 cubes.
