I would like to build a channel wedge frame for a limited super stock 8000 lb. Is 1/4 inch enough or should I go with 5/16 ? |

3/16" is sufficient. make it a true c (4 bends) and at least 10" in back and 8" tall in front. If it were me I would use hi tensile 1/8". |

When building a tube frame it says to use 2x .120 tube frame but can you use a smaller diameter on the cross members which tie the two tubes together.. such as 1.5 in tubing |

We use 3/16" on all our wedge chassis and have never had a problem with them buckling. And yes you can use smaller tubing for the bracing in the middle of a tube chassis. Bumping a old thread here. When building a wedge or straight channel frame from plate, what width do most guys use ? Say 10" tall plate bent into C channel, 2" wide with a 1" lip on the inside so its a true c ? Does that sound about right ? |
