238 legs, unless there is a driver too. Then 240. |

Simple
7 girls on bus = 14 legs (2 each) 7 backpacks for each girl = 7^2 backpacks = 49 backpacks 7 big cats for each backpack = 7^3 big cats = 49 * 7 big cats = 343 big cats * 4 legs each = 1372 legs 7 little cats for each little cat = 7^4 little cats = 343 * 7 little cats = 2401 little cats * 4 legs each = 9604 legs Total (assuming no bus driver) = 10990 legs With a bus driver= 10992 legs |

7 girls x 7 backpacks = 49 backpacks
each back pack 7 big cats+ (7 little cats for each big cat)=49 cats per backpack 49 cats x 49 backpacks=2401 x 4 legs=9604 cat legs 9604 cat legs + 14 girl legs=9618 + (2 for the bus driver) would equal 9620 I will probably feel stupid when I hear the answer!! |

Bo, come back here and let us know if we're right.
My answer is 10,990 |
Re: Try This One

yep
|
i got 10990 with out a busdriver and not counting the legs of the seats but you can't really count those because its different with every bus. |

Here are some answers
0 - Busses don't have legs, they have wheels 10990 - Counting only girls legs and cats legs 10992 - Counting girls legs, cats legs, and bus drivers legs ????? - Counting girls legs, cats legs, bus drivers legs, and legs on the seats I'm guessing they want 10990 |

You have to assume that all are intact. The problem says all information needed is provided. I take it no one has seen this mysterious spreadsheet?? My original answer I know is wrong, so I will figure out a new one.

I had a Homer moment, I would have to agree with several on this post and now say 10990 with no driver. Forgot to add the 7 big cats to the 49 little cats! |

Here is my answer, same as many 10990.
Here's my method: 7 girls, 14 legs 7 packs per girl, 49 total packs 7 big cats and 49 small cats (56) total cats per pack 49 packs x 56 cats/pack, 2744 total cats 2744 cats x 4 legs/cat, 10976 cat legs 10976 cat legs + 14 girl legs 10990 total legs in the bus. |

7 girls x 2 legs = 14 legs
7 girls x 7 b. p. = 49 b.p in each b.p. there are 7 big cats 7 x 49 = 343 big cats for every big cat there are 7 little cats 343 x 7 = 2401 cats 2401 cats x 4 legs each = 9604 cat legs + 14 girl legs = 9618 legs I guess 9618. |

To rpm560,
You only multiplied the # of small cats x 4. You needed to add the b.c total before multiplying. I don't know what the correct answer is suppose to be, but yours was off the popular one just by the # of big cats' legs. I am giving this problem to a woman that is a 5th grade math teacher!!!!! Rick |

Highlight the original post question. Right click and choose search with google. Should say something like "This is a 5th grade math problem. Find the one that starts with GRRRR, [www.redeaglespirit.com], Then scroll to MathProblem.xls click this and it will ask for password(the answer). Enter it here.
Thanks Bo, Rick Or just enter the address in this message!!!! I did all the boring work. |

5th Grader

My answer is 70 total legs.
Back packs don't have legs !! 7 girls x 2 legs each ( hope they are pretty ones) = 14 legs 7 bigs cats legs x 4 legs each = 28 total legs 7 little cats legs x 4 legs each = 28 total legs 14 + 28 + 28 = 70 total legs in the bus. |
