V8 DSS

With the V8s being so strong in the USS and a GN pro stock taking the championship home, do any of you out there think a Perkins V8 would hang with the top dogs in the DSS class?? The cubes are there and seems like you might be able to get a few more RPM out of it. Or has this been tried in the past?? |

I remember years ago there was an article in the Puller magazine about one being built by Conners. Warp Speed was the name of the tractor. Don't know if it ever made a pass down the track or not. I would think that with the advancement that Carlton Cope has made would help. I as well would love to see one run against the GN guys. |

Is the big Cummins they are using in the UlSS legal in DSS? |

To answer your question, no it isn't legal for DSS. That engine is only legal in USS because it was only used in the big articulating tractor ( or this is what I have been told). Keith Ford Photography [www.facebook.com] keithfordphotography.zenfolio.com |

We are going to run the Feissty Farmer in the Lt Unlimited, not sure what we will do about the Mod class as there will likely be some conflicts in the schedules. We would like to run the S'no Farmer in the Lt. Unlimited also but we have a hauler issue,we can't get them both in our trailer. We don't want to drive two haulers to the events. Some of the closer events we will for sure run both tractors. We will see how many Lt. Unlimited hooks there are then figure out what we will do.

My facts need to be checked but I remember a puller in the late 70s or early 80s that pulled a Massy 2805 I think. His name was Don Flowers (again I'm not sure),the tractor was called old number one as it was the first 2805 made. I think he won a points title with that tractor back in those days.

Todd,
I'm pretty sure you're right on the years, I'm thinking 1976-1978. I know he was from Missouri and I think his name was Don Berry, but I could be wrong. I believe I saw him at the Indiana State Fair sometime in that period when I was pulling my tractor in the old 5 Mod class. Of course I think he was pulling 12,000 Super Stock, possibly the 9,000 SS. Todd,
Whats your game plan for 2014 ? Going to focus on one Mod class or try to commit to both Light UNL and Mod class ? |
