what would happen if you used 414 crank with with 466 pistons and rods November 25, 2013 05:12PM
This maybe a stupid idea but I was wondering how a motor 466 engine would run with 414 crank with and 466 pistons and rods. It may not be possible but if so would you be able spin if faster, or would the compression be too low to get to run? Just thinking about different combination. Thanks for humoring me with strange idea. Have a great Thanksgiving.

That combination would yield a 414 cid engine with roughly the compression of a butter churn.

That what I thought but was not sure. Thanks for the information.

What class are you wanting to run? How much fuel , air , water you planing on runing? May want to use 436 pistons.

Limited to 466 inches, 3X3 , unlimited RPMS. I would like to be able to turn over 6,000 rpms off the line. The way sleds are set around here the first 250 feet or so, not much of load on the tractor. It seems to me that the faster you can get the sled going before the weight hits you the further you go. I know you can built a 466 to turn over 6000 rpms but the one we run against seem to break down a lot. Just thinking out of box. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

DAMN that funny....And accurate.

put the 466 crank in, use 436 pistons, hog out the bowl of a 436 piston and machine the top flat eliminating the valve reliefs. Suck your valves up into the head to compensate for valve releifs. Port the head huge and use a mild cam, or small ports and huge cam. Have a full ether can on board, when she starts to lug, hit the button.. Can you run an inline? We did this in NEw York, cheap....

Why not just use a 414 crank and pistons. Shorter stroke better suited for high rpms.

Or try a long rod, 414 crank, diff bore sleeve and pistons to get back to 466ci.

I think I will try run a 414. I know I am giving up inches but I believe RPMs would help more. The tractor I work on is running 466 with long rods and custom pistons and 5200 all we can get out of old girl with 13 mm p pump and modified 3X3. I want to do something different. and hopeful cheaper and also reliable..

Even though rpm is not limited by the rules, it is going to be limited by your turbo. For that reason, it is my opinion that you would still be better off with the cubes and longer stroke of a 466 than trying to spin a smaller short stroke motor tighter. Get your speed from the higher gear that you will be able to pull with the longer stroke and spend the money where it needs to be spent to make the engine live.

Dont take my word for it, but a motor that I wanted to run incorporated a very common 4 5/8 bore block and a 414 crank. It is a sweet setup for open rpm pulling. The drawback to it is that it nets around 475 cubes, and in the 466 class- you are over cubed. I intended on building it for tri-states hot farm class, and ran the idea past a couple of the guys in the class. They were fine with it, but the engine never materialized. Advantages are the rpm capabilities, and the possibility of running the 2 1/4 intake valve in the 466 class. You end up within 2% of the cube limit, so take that into consideration.

DT 408 November 28, 2013 03:53AM
Any information on the DT408?

Will the head/manifolds interchange, with the 414 thru 466?

The class has a 410 limit, to keep the 414 out.

Thoughts?

Happy Turkey day!

If your looking to be competative in the badgerland sanity class, you can do some things that others arent. Especially in the red zone. There are a couple built motors, but not many. Couple guys around this area run the 360 ag crank with 806 pistons (4.125 bore) yielding 408 cubes, but I think their is a much better combination out there. Call me and I will discuss it with you personally. 608-317-7321. The dt408 isnt worth looking at because it is based off of the 400 series block, and not accepted in the lighter chassis.

What's the best combo for a JD 410ci set up? (B.S. LLSS)

Wow really. It will still be 414 with stupid low compression.

I dont think you could get it to start

Be nice ,maybe its a kid just getting started or something to that effect.I remember being there.Very overwelming.
