Gt42 pulling setup November 04, 2022 03:45PM
Thinking about putting a gt4202r 3x3 on a dt466. It has a flowed head 3000rpm cam dual feed 5 20s. The fuel pump is a fair valley 625 cc rotary. My question is will the motor spin the turbo with out water, if not how much will I need for this turbo. This is for a farmstock open speed limit as well as some mph classes. Weight ranges from 10000 to 14000. What housing should I get. And what is the potential HP of the setup.

You will want to put about 40 to 50 oz. Of water on it I recommend a 98 exhaust housing. The pump will limit your HP from 650 to 800 hp max range depending upon your cam. Have fun and let her rip!! Best wishes.

You will definitely want the water to make it lug. Rotary pump and smaller injectors is gonna hold you back some also. Run a 101 housing, tighter the better. Likely won’t be the best choice for mph classes either, as you have to turn them pretty hard to keep them lit. Honestly your setup would likely be better paired to a S300.

I would guess you will be in that 700-800 horse range.

Where’s the best place to pick up a gt42 ball bearing turbo? Not all were out of the box 3x3’s were they? Any special part number a guy wants to look for ?

ATP

ATPTurbo.com

A turbo builder told me the new G series center section an exhaust wheel is superior, but the compressor side isn't ideal for pulling, especially 3000rpm. Believe he thought the a/r of the comp housing was too large, so he used the gt series comp housing, and made his own billet wheel. Not saying any of that is correct but its something to think about, ask around before order one online. His price was actually less than what ATP would list the g42 for.

Then it's no longer a Box Turbo.

Actually, clubs requiring a GT42 out of the box should be thinking about changing to the GtX42 which is the newer and more available box turbo from Garrett.
