Non turbo 466 December 19, 2013 03:23AM
Im thinking about putting a D-466 in a 560 to run against all the RD-501s around me. Start off...they do allow this combo. Now do you guys think a non turbo 466 would run with 8mph RD-501s? I know to much fuel would kill it, so kinda got that one figured out. I know that I need the higher compression pistons. Im just wondering if all is right in the motor set up if the diesel torque would out perform the gassers bigger cubes? I know the weight differance will be a killer. But i can put the tractor on a serious diet, not to mention the operator.

I have a d360 running on alky that was beating them last year in open rpm and speed classes.my tractor is foe sale to build a llss.

That combo isnt even an option. Sorry. Good luck on the sale.

I have seen many combonations pull the alky tractors are tough to beat with diesel

Re: Non turbo 466 December 19, 2013 11:45PM
Im talking about antique tractors pulling 8mph, not alky's running full bore. Im just asking about if they would be competitive against the RD's running gas.

Re: Non turbo 466 December 20, 2013 12:18AM
If you plan to run 8mph, I know the NA 466 engines will run with the RD engines. I have a 560 with a NA 466 weighing 4700lb. Give me a call 2706221657

We have a 501 and a 466 in a 560. Very competitive in the 6 and 8 mph classes. need to call Taylor88, he can fix you up.

Re: Non turbo 466 December 23, 2013 12:03PM
How much does it take to make a RD501 competitive in a 6000lb 12mph class? I assume when you say they are good for 6 and 8mph that would be in stock form. Will a good cam, head work, and higher compression pistons do it?

I have a 460 with a 468 in it ready to pull. Custom paint, aluminum wheels and all for sale. If u need adapter plates to bolt ur own motor in weld on hubs aluminum rails or front end transmission top I build all that aluminum stuff also for sale. You can call me at 2709934645

Re: Non turbo 466 December 23, 2013 11:34PM
guess I'm an idiot, but, what is an RD 501 ???

Re: Non turbo 466 December 24, 2013 01:58AM
The RD501 was a truck engine. Instead of building a 301 anymore, guys are putting in the RD450 or the RD501 truck engines into 460/560's for more power.

Don't feel bad Steve, I didn't know either.

Re: Non turbo 466 December 24, 2013 11:46PM
Thanks for the info, maybe that explains why, here in New York I see supposedly 40- 50 hp "stock" tractors putting20 feet on a 95 hp tractor in the 7500 pound class.

Re: Non turbo 466 December 26, 2013 04:12AM
Well I believe im going to go ahead and build this tractor. I would like to think it should be competitve. If nothing else it'll get me back to pulling with some great guys in my area. I know just south of me a little, there are a couple pretty dang good running RD's. And i hear of a "big one" being built. If nothing else, I think it'll be neat to see some smoke. Thanks guys. Now im on the search for a 560. We will see where it goes from here. Thanks again.

Re: Non turbo 466 December 26, 2013 11:39AM
why not just contact me and get one with the 466 already installed it has a tube frame but that can be eliminate and frame rails installed in a few minutes. or we can change the whole motor for a little less money.

Re: Non turbo 466 December 26, 2013 10:33PM
What you got to offer? Im banking since I have the engine, I can build this cheaper than buying. Ive done 2 of these before, but both have had turbos. Plus, to me, putting it together is half the fun. Calling around and finding parts and talking to people is a great way to meet some people. If you have something that might interest me my email is always open. Thanks

I got a tractor bought yesterday. So the planning begins. Know to begin a parts list. Anybody need any 560 pieces? lol

Re: Non turbo 466 December 29, 2013 05:19AM
its a ag engine but was scarcly used in ag but a lot in trucks, no dif than the dt 468 or wachashaw power units. Just clearing up the misconception of it om
nly a truck engine. I built mine for the bigger cubes at lower cost n studied it for two yrs so as not to invest in a illegal build that I couldn't pull. So just givin my 2cnts but ih guys had to do something in antique to get back up front after a 320 wackashaw was allowed. I get beat a lot by many dif tractors below 8mph but the rd is tough above that. Not a fan of the new wave of pullers who killed the little guys before rd with their big ci late model ag n power plant engines who now want to complain they don't get the trophy every hook. its spread around now more than ever if u look at results
. Use to hear of a tractor who won whole seasons in certain classes now ,ive never seen it so guess we all r closer to even than ever by results.
