NTPA rule making process: How would you improve it? January 23, 2023 04:52AM
What things do you think would improve the NTPA rule making process (this isn't about any specific rules, it's about the process)? What about the process is broken in your opinion and what would be good steps to fix it?

I'll ask one thing for insiders- If NTPA is the sanctioning body, why should WPI have any say at all with competition rules? Isn't WPI supposed to be the financial management part and NTPA the actual pulling part?

NTPA is a logo not its own entity is the easiest way to state it. A lot of things have been done based on history and tradition but how things used to be and how they are, are two different things. Does WPI flex very often? No, the boards have done a good job of working together. WPI is the business manager, so a very strong argument can be made that all business decisions fall upon WPI. Everything from adding classes, taking classes away, hiring people, firing people, laying people off, rules etc. every decision is a business decision.

The best thing to happen for the rule making process would be to remove pullers from the equation. Historically we have been our own worst enemy. Everyone is always worried about the guy next to them instead of competing against themselves and being better than they were last pass, last month, last year. So then you get disgruntled pullers who either build a new sandbox or new class and now have 100 single charger diesel only classes. The problem wasn’t created over night and it’s not going to go away over night.

Hooded tr classes should only have rules so that all brands can be competitive

Thats a nice thought but there will always be a brand that has an advantage. Minnis and Cases have advatage in some antique classes. I pull a john deere only because parts availabilty/ limited budget. The off brands are too expensive honestly. Billet crank same price for case as for BBJD

Limit the ring and pinion to a certain speed and all type will be the same. It will be back to pulling instead of overpowering everyone.

One way to improve the rules making process would be to enlist industry experts when making the rules, not listening to someone who has made a product which doesn't fit the current rule so they lobby (ie. just like the politicians) by providing a cash sponsorship or something to get their product approved. Abide by published industry standards (engines, tires, etc. yes there are standards).....
