Shaffers oil January 11, 2014 06:18AM
Anyone running the supreme 7000 20-50w. If so what you think?
Thanks for the info.

Re: Shaffers oil January 11, 2014 10:05AM
I ran it last year. open rpm 466 deere. bearings looked really good yet. probably 20 passes on them. changed it every 10 passes. It was pretty black though. Think it was about $20 a gallon.

We run the 50w and it's worked great in a alky llss

Re: Shaffers oil January 11, 2014 01:17PM
Are you using the # 705 20w-50 in the LLSS Alcohol

Re: Shaffers oil January 12, 2014 01:08AM
Are u guys running any additive? Also what u running for bearing clearance? And oil pressure?

We are a dealer and run it in our DSS. After tear down this fall the bearings looked like they were just put in. In my opinion one of the best oils you can use.

OK dealer what oil should I run in my llss alky? And how should I breakin the engine without a dyno?

Re: Shaffers oil January 12, 2014 11:44AM
Break it in the way you want it to run. Get it warmed up and cooled down a couple of times. don't let it just sit and idle around. after that, turn it loose. The supreme 7000 is good for diesel or gas motors.

Re: Shaffers oil January 12, 2014 12:16PM
Would you use the Shafers 7000 oil to breakin? I have heard of running strait 30w to breakin to get the rings to seat.

Re: Shaffers oil January 12, 2014 12:37PM
shaffers 7000 oil is excellent oil but it is NOT for breaking in new engine ..im no oil expert but from what I have been told the oil will coat the piston rings and not let them seal properly. I would run lucas break in oil (it has high zinc) to break in the engine then switch to shaffer 7000

Re: Shaffers oil January 12, 2014 12:50PM
Lucas break in oil 20w50 has 3600 ppm zinc and Schaeffers 7000 20w50 is 1600-2000 ppm. Just for reference on the subject.

Agree with Builder. The 7000 20-50 is good both alky and diesel pulling motors. Put your motor together and run it through some heat cycles and go pull.

There are many theories on getting rings to seat. Go with what you trust. And with tractor pulling what really is break in? Heck if you are like us you might only have time to get it warm check for leaks and you are heading down the road to go hook. Or don't have time to start it until you get there. Beer

Is there a website to find the listing of zinc/contents for each oil?? thanks

Re: Shaffers oil January 13, 2014 11:48AM
Usually each brands website should list MSDS and TD sheets.

scroll to the bottom of this link to see an example here.
