ih c301 carb problem

I have a c301 bored to 4" about 10 to 1 compression, stock carb. I should have about 110 hp with what I have done. But on dyno I get to about 80-85 hp and it runs out of gas. What options do I have to fix the problem. I have to use stock IH carb. Need all advice I can get. Thanks Jim Lee |

Have you drilled the main jet out any? |

Yes and I have drilled the seat out and made a bigger needle to get more fuel in the bowl. It seems that I am sucking the bowl dry. I think I need to get more flow to the carb but wanted to know how to best get it done if you guys agree that's my problem. Thanks |

I did not want to use a pump if I don't have to. If I have no other choice what psi should I buy? |

I have a used Summit pump, with gauge and regulator for $100. That way you can set to what ever pressure you want. I would run as high as you need to feed the carb, but not push the float open when bowl is full. I ran 6-8 on a big Stromberg. |

I know alot of these engines have been built, and alot more horse and compression, does everyone just use a pump? |

They all run electric pumps. |

Try drilling the air jet or air vent this sometimes restricts the fuel flow. Another thing is the tractor have a bowl on it still if so this will restrict the fuel needed . take bowl off and add a stainless screen filter. I would try these things. You shouldn't need a pump |

take a die grinder and grind out the bowl you would be surprised how much more gas you can make it hold |

I had a simular problem and what farmmagedon says helps but i still needed a fuel pump! I just got a 2-4psi inline pump from car quest, put a plastic inline fuel filter before the pump and it took care of my problem. You could try making sure you have a good angle down ward from tank to carburator first for proper gravity flow if you don't want to use a pump and see if that works?? |

I ordered a pump monday 2.5-4.5 psi. Will try it to see if it solves my problem which I am sure it will. Then I will see if I call get it to work without it using larger lines,no bends etc. Thanks everyone for the help electric pump sounds like the easy way & maybe the only way. Jim Lee |
