rack n pinion February 06, 2014 01:19AM
I have a 10000 pound tractor and was wondering if using a rack n pinion manually would be to hard to steer or if hooking hydraulic to it needs to be done. wasa just trying to stay away from hydraulic to save horsepower, thanks for input.

Will be a bitch to steer. Be done with it and put hydraulics on it now. Use an electric over hydraulic pump and it won't rob power.

a lot of people use a steering pump off a boat back forth fluid

Arlin Pomajzl (PoBar) makes a nice hydraulic setup that quite a few people use. 402-826-0793

We weigh 9K, we have a 10" wide wheel, not bad at all to steer.
