Is a 2-85 rearend thought enough to put a built 8.3 cummins in front of it? I know the 2-85 and the 2-105 are pretty much the same besides the extra bearing on the pinion .are they strong enough is what I am asking? |

First questions that come to mind are how much HP, and weight you'll be running |

That rear and and down to a 1755 is stronger than a 1466 ih ,And the transmission gears are interchangeable with a lot of models |

Be aware that the early 2-85's (1975-midyear 1977) used a four spider gear differential. Beginning with serial number 277-182 White 2-85's changed to a two spider gear differential configuration. There are also no inner bull pinion bearing supports in any white 2-85. I would not recommend using a 2-85 with a two spider geared differential for a pulling tractor. |

All white 2-105's will have a 4 spider gear differential. All large frame Oliver's including 1800's will have 4 spider gears in there differentials.White Farm Equipment management in 1975 were trying to cut cost of production of a white 2-85 and chose the use of a two spider gear differential. If it failed dealers were instructed to replace the assembly with the 4 spider gear 2-105 differential. |
