Re: just starting February 15, 2014 06:29PM
KBacker How much for your tractor? She is wanting us to get a JD.. So I would say that's what we will get. Sorry but not intrested in mini rods.. We may can come up with some more money if can't find something in our price range..

Re: just starting February 16, 2014 01:13AM
You can't buy a stock 4010 or 4020 for $10,000. I would say at least double or triple that number for anything that runs good and that would be a 3000 rpm 466 3lm style tractor without much safety stuff.

Re: just starting February 16, 2014 06:32AM
If you did consider red I could fix you up with a 560 chasses and a dt 466 to go in it for around 2.700.00 paint it green and change your wifes name to Charlene

Re: just starting February 18, 2014 12:46AM
Where are you from? I know there are a lot of "too hot too farm" classes popping up all over the place I'm from central Illinois and our local club isp just put one in last year great class lots of color making about 600-650 hp classes like this are great starter classes to get the feel of the power and speed before you bump up also easier on the pocket book (box turbo small fuel pumps etc) than many of the bigger classes just a thought....

Re: just starting February 18, 2014 01:05AM
What club is this in central IL. Id like to pull with them

Re: just starting February 18, 2014 04:51AM
I honestly don't think there is a class anywhere that I know of running that you could build for $10000. $25000 is probably more like the average for low cost pulling. Includes naturally aspirated, farm stock classes.

Re: just starting February 18, 2014 03:44PM
$25000 may be possible for a "to hot to farm". I don't believe you can build a competitive light pro field for 25.

Re: just starting February 19, 2014 12:45AM
it depends how much work you wanna do yourself are you willing to spend the late hours in the shop tinkering and maybe struggling for a year or two till you find your setup or are you going to buy from a builder? theres the big difference in money

I bought a 68 4020 lp at an auction for $5500, sold some parts off it I didn't need. so ended up having about $4500 in it. Bought a 466 motor for $1500, 55 series head, beafed up the clutch, went throught the motor, made weight brackets wheelie bars, etc. put some cut tires on, painted it, all the safety stuff, it weighs 8000 lbs, put 3lm on it apump, spins it out in 7th every time at 3000rpm. Have under $15000 in it. Like someone said before, if you can do the work yourself, it will save you thousands. And you get the satisfactory from doing it all yourself when you hop on it and tear down the track

Re: just starting February 20, 2014 09:25AM
stubby 2 stacks has 6500 in a oliver with 3208 pulls na 8 mph does very good

Have you tryed building a farmstock tractor lately. I did last year and I did buy a junk 4430 from a auction a d built it as cheap as I could and I had $22,000 in it. Been their done that. A few years ago I ran an naturally aspirated class and the tractor cost $20,000 to build.

I have an IH 1466, DT466, ported head, hyper cam, springs, head gasket/fire rings, heavy idler, cut pistons. Chassis is stripped of all non necessities, hyraulic brakes and steering, lightweight front end. Weight brackets, intercooler with all plumbing and icebox, water injection. 13mm rotary pump, lines, injectors, S4 2.9x3 charger. Needs clutch (I had triple disk in it). 24.5x32 top cut tires on wide steel wheels. Approx 8700lbs. $14,000 pretty much puts you on the track and running well. CAll or text me 716-984-722three

I have a Hot Farm 4020 with a Kenneys pulling parts clutch and flywheel that runs 3000rpm that I would sell for $18000. It does have a air shut off and wheely bars and also a roll bar. It has many other extra parts as well.

If you are intreasted email me at jweber9393@gmail.com

Jd guy, lil more info and where ya from. stock trans? 3spd? 1/2 gears? 404, 466? pump? turbo?

Re: just starting February 21, 2014 04:35AM
Your question indicated truck or tractor. If a pickup would suit an older Dodge with straight tranny and 12V mechanical diesel can do pretty well if set up right.I have pulled tractors and pickups thru the years and the most fun was just to bring our truck right off street or tractor out of field and have fun.Money has a way of taking the fun out of things. As much as I enjoy the speed and power most people in the crowd like local people that they know even if they aren't competitive.

Re: just starting February 21, 2014 06:19AM
Yeah if you want cheap fun get a 94-early 98 dodge with a 5spd and 12v. You can have some serious fun for cheap. Here's my Ford I put a 12v in. Sold it a few years ago roughly 750hp for $18k.
