When did the 7 engine modified era end? June 30, 2014 02:43AM
Was talking with a friend the other day and the subject of the old 7 engine modifieds came up (from the 80's early 90's?) I recall Banter brothers and Engler with 7 engines in the unlimited class. It got us thinking....when did this era end? Is there a specific year? I assume this will go along with the elimination of the 9000 and 12000 classes?
Did anyone ever build an 8 engine tractor? Brings back memories of the 80's...thanks for any information.

I believe 1991 was the last year for the 9200 mod class. In 1992, I believe, NTPA ran an 8200 mod class for a year of 2. Imo, this was one of the best weights they had as you had Banters and Vernon Kourey with 6 engines, and Knox, Walsh, Jaske, Piper, etc with 5 engines, and Gardner also.

NTPA also ran 7,400 and 8,400 weights for a year after this, then 7,600 lbs. They couldn't find a weight to stay with during the 90s.

The way to check it is easy. 1) Bookmark www.pulling-reference.com (notice the - in the middle?) 2) On the home page, click on "Champions". 3) Select "NTPA Grand National". 4) Enjoy your study and memories!
Dan Mayer spends his own time and $$ to do all this - a great valuble pulling history service. Thanks Dan!
