Fair hitch height? July 01, 2014 03:34PM
We run local brush pulls with a 2wd pickup.. only 4-5 of us have 2wds and the rest are 4x4.. we run a 36 inch hitch, the 4x4 run a 30 inch.. no problem.. until the end of the night when they have a king of the hill and usually pay a whopping 200.00 to the winner... the 4x4 are not winning and complaining that our hitch is too high.. what is a fair hitch height for the 2wds if the 4x4 are running 30 inches?

Seems pretty obvious, split the difference if 2wd is 36 and 4wd is 30, King of the hill at 33. But you know soon as the 4wd trucks start winning and 2wd dont the complaints are going to start again. But if the @wd guys want to offer a "Peace treaty" offer up 33, half way if they bawk, then offer 34, and if they bawk again, leave it as it is.

Or you could offer them the same 36" hitch height and see if any of them are smart enough to get their truck set up right to run it! LOL

Remember you have two tires digging dirt and they have four. This has always been a problem between 2wds and 4x4s but it can be made to work... Mstpa once had a open where every body but tractors dropped 4" and it kinda worked, 2wd can move weight easy, 4x4 can move weight if they know how and where but a 4x4 can break drive train doing this. And this was on 26"/30" Have fun with it.........

Step 1 is to get the goofy 4x4 guys to go 26" hitch height like every other organized association does.
Step 2 is to get the 2wd hitches down to 30", same reason!
Crazy to have hitch heights like that! Your sleds must have 54" long chains!
Actually some discussions about dropping 2wd hitch height a tad in the "big" orgs. Guys that are older than Moses are opposed,,,,
Would put more emphasis on weight placement and actually driving different,,,,,,,
