bore vs July 22, 2014 12:46PM
I am thinking of making a change. I run in superfarm with a 8.3 cummins
505 cube. Id like to build bigger im thinking more stroke would be better but its cheaper boring!
What is the best way to build a superfarm 640 i know not many people like sf class but in are neck of the woods its the biggest class we have
or can I bolt a 400s ih 640 in and be ntpa legal I probably am the only guy with a true case ih magnum in sf im from KY 502 467 3154
thanks for time and space
id really like to build a cummins 640 I think I can make good air flow over the 400s ih engine the heads I feel are just way better my head is stock ive pulled against 540 ih engines with hyper heads and won half the time! I also believe hypermax heads are recast
trying to be smart and use the technology

Stroke is the way to go with the IH motors dont know about the rest havent done the research on them.
Running the 400 series motor with ur sheet metal is legal in ntpa.

Might check the specs on a 9.0 liter cummins

youll need bore and stroke to hit 640. dont know 8.3s but id think 4.875x5.75 would be good if it fits

Go with the 8.9l cummins crank. Its a direct replacement just swap it in for more stroke

Re: bore vs July 25, 2014 03:55PM
Yep 8.9 crank, bore and sleeve. Might want to look for a ISL 8.9 block that has the roller lifters. Talk to ed he will point you in the right direction
