Help with dt466. August 10, 2014 04:35AM
Having an issue with a dt466 in a 1066. 3000 rpm hyper head gasket fire ringed p pump 3x3 charger. Head gasket started seeping water last week out the back of the head. Last night I backed it in the shop and it is now leaking oil from the head gasket at the back of the head. Motor was just put together and has 6 pulls on it. Will retorqeing the head fix the problem? Does it need to come apart and head gasket replaced? Since it's already leaking water should I just go with a copper gasket? Who makes the best copper gasket? Thanks.

too much crush on fire rings holding your head gasket from sealing water and oil.. .015 max with stock head bolts may be ok if you retorque

Do you use sealer on the gasket if not use copper coat spray a heavy coat or use the silicone if you are using nothing it will always leak

Thanks guys. Waiting for new head gasket and studs to come in. We were a little heavy on the crush. Also did not use copper coat but will be this time. It had been lifting the head after we got it apart.

We aneel the copper head gasket use thin coat of ultra copper silicone and caterpillar head bolts torqued to 210 ft pounds. With a fire ring crush of .27 never had an issue

Who anneals your gasket? Where did you get the gasket from?

Re: Help with dt466. August 14, 2014 01:16PM
You can anneal it yourself hang the gasket in a dark room heat with a torch until it turns red start at the top and go down it will warp but straiten rite out but with fire rigs the head gasket is doing nothing but keeping water and oil separated and is a spacer

you should be well above the limit of cast hubs

We have used the same hyper gasket for about 8 years never had a problem. Over the years I found to retourq the head about three times I tourq to 200 ft lbs using stock bolts. Never had one leak.

Got bit all back together and ran it last night. That's the best it has ran so far. I think it still has more. Got to 280 feet and snapped another hub. What's the normal hp that hubs start breaking? Gonna order some weld on hubs today.

What are some good guidlines to follow when considering whether to use cast hubs or weld ons, etc??

How tough is it to get the weld ons to stick without cracking welds?
