First off what are you running for a engine and what class? The second thing is don't ever put a posi rear end or limited slip. They will crash you if you break a axle. You will be turned sideways in front of the sled. |

I wouldn't use a 12 bolt for anything bigger than a small tire small block. And save yourself a lot of grief and have a good needled center section built. Straight runs win. JW |

Are you running small tires or big tires? If your running small tires go with a Ford 9 inch. Parts are easy to get and ratios have a larger election that's easy and quick to get. |

Been looking around and not having any luck. Who makes a needled 12 bolt open center or does someone make a needle bearing kit for a 12 bolt? |

Forget the 12 bolt!
If you insist on using a car rear end, use a 9" Ford. MUCH easier to work on! Can get aluminum drop out for it. Stronger than a 12 bolt. |

We ran a dana 60 in our chassis. Drilled out the welds and removed the steel axles. Made new short tubes out of aluminum. Worked great. |

Depends on which unit you go with. Dana 60 go with a 5.13 if you have a weak gear box; 4.10 with the stron gear box. Dana 80 can use a 5.13, same deal and the rear is lighter and just as durable as a 106. Horst, Cutshall, we used one for a long time, but then we were down on power! 106 basically only has two: 6.20 or 6.80. Ford 9 inch, I don't know. How much horsepower at what level are you contemplating/ What tires are you planning to run? Firestones are easier (and yes, you can be competitive with Firestones) on the drive line. There is a lot of consideration depending on the level you are building for. Ford 9 inch and GM 12 bolt have been gone for a long time in any big tire, good NA motor combo. JW |

He seems hung up on the 12 bolt. Must have one in his garage he wants to use.
Good advice Jim! I would only run a 9" or 12 bolt with n/a, and 31" tires. 34" or 16.1's and Dana 80 or preferably (in my opinion) F106 I have built with what I had before, thinking I was saving money. In this game, best to spend the money and get the "hot set up" to start with. |

Yes I already have a 12 bolt rear. Yes the class is a NA V8 alky class with 31s. |
