Aluminum starts to melt at or around 1400 degrees... |

Too many variables to give a specific temp at which a piston will fail. Metallurgy, coatings, thickness of the crown, how much oil cooling the piston receives from oil on the underside, and how long high temps are sustained are all contributing factors and are some of the reasons a piston can survive egt's well above aluminum's melting point. |

They will be just fine at around 1450 - 1500 with your timing at 50 degrees or less with water injection. |

That's what I was wondering Jd4455. MY egts are running about 1480 on the hottest cylinder and was wondering if I'm getting close to meltdown |

It will make more power if it's a little cooler. I keep my LPS EGTs under 1300. |

Plus GMS pistons don't like a lot of heat cause the wrist pin holes and wrist pins will swell and will stick. |
