466 into 766 September 23, 2014 01:44PM
How much is involved in puttig a 466 into a 766? Are the hoods same lenth? How about frame rails? Can they just be redrilled ? Are they the same lenth?
Thanks,

The simplest way is to use 66/86 series frame rails. You will need to lengthen the hoods, among other things. It's not a simple drop in, but it's definitely not the most complicated thing.

Change frame rails to at least 966, just so you dont have to redrill front motor mount holes. If it was a gas 766 you will need a radiator for a 400 series engine. You will also need a diesel fuel tank so you can have the fuel return to the tank. Hoods are the same length. Exhaust hole is different. Recut hood hole and patch old one. Starter will need changed to a diesel starter. Hope this helps.

My mistake, I thought I read 706! Sorry about that. Into a 766 should be much easier.

Is it a diesel? if so it is really easy, frame rails are the same from 766 diesel to 1586, front and rear engine plates are the same, the right hand hood will need to be modified for the exhaust only. if you are going to put a 1066 fuel tank on it the rear center hood is different where the hole for the fill hole. the radiator will work if you are only pulling it, it will not keep it cool enough to plow or do heavy field work for long periods. throttle linkage is three inches shorter on the 766 than the 9, 10, 14, 1566.

if it is a gas? it is a little more expensive because depending on what engine you plan to use decides what you will need to buy to complete it, the frame rails on a gas are in fact longer than any of the other 66 series tractors due to the thin rear engine plate of a gas engine. if you are not installing a turbo on the 466 the hood on the 766 gas is the same as a 966. the fuel tank on the gas is also the same as the diesel. throttle linkage is different as earlier stated the radiator and fan shroud is also different.

I have done several of these due to the condition of the 360 engines it was less expensive to put a 466 in place of the 360
