Factory tires used on 66 series IH tractors October 17, 2014 12:41PM
Anyone know what the factory rear tires were that IH offered on the 66 series tractors? I have a 1566 that I believe to be a low hour tractor. It has firestone gum dipped 20.8's on it. A little less than half tread. Hour meter shows about 2400 hours. Is there a way to date the tires?

I have all of the codes off of the tires. Actually all of the small print from around the bead area and sidewall are all the same except for one digit, and they are sequential. One has an 8 in a certain spot whereas the other side has a 9 in the same position. Just wondering if it was possible to date these tires to assure my belief that they are original to the tractor. I just brought it home from southern Illinois. Had a 4" tree grown up through the cab on one side, and another that grew up through the dash and steering column. Guessing it has been sitting for around 15 years.

151's were available on 1566's then? I was pretty sure, but haven't proven it yet. I'm pretty knowledgeable on the red ones. My gut feeling is that I truely found an all original 1566 with 2400 hours. Everything is right. No signs of wear on the drawbar. Tires are properly worn for the hours etc. If I could date the Firestone 151's, I could prove it to be in original condition. Thanks for the encouragement frantic crew.

They are a matched set of firestone 151 r1 biased tires. Gum dipped and shock fortified field and roads. Along the bead, in small print is .....
4 DU 3 BD 44560 2
Also in the side of the tire recessed in two locations is the following....
G3 in one pad and 000099JN in the other.
On the other wheel around the bead is....
3 DU and BD 44560 2
And in the two recessed labels, it reads G2 in one and 000089JN in the other.

If further information is needed, or pictures of the codes is necessary please let me know. The first two groups are small raised letters around the bead. The G2 G3 and the 000099JN 000089JN are recessed like they were from placards set individually into the mold and specific to each tire.

OK talked to my friend this morning, most of the numbers were mold ID numbers. The numbers that matter are the last numbers in the raised sequence. The 445602 the 44 is mold ID, the rest are 5 means 5th day, 6 means 6th month, 02 means year, that could be 72 or 82 or 92 or whatever. The recessed numbers are actual serial numbers. So they could actually be the 89th and 99th tire built that week. He said they changed the serial plate weekly back then.
