Boost on a C301 November 13, 2014 05:29PM
I run a C301 with a turbo pulling through a 4 barrel. How much boost dare I run on the motor with stock rods, pistons and crank. It runs 4500-5000rpms. And what is the best choice for the turbo? Runs good now, just looking for more power. Thanks.

WE used to run a turboed 301 started with a TO4 25 pounds of boost then figured we needed
more power went to a 3lm with a 2.75 inlet ran 40 pounds of boost it ran good there until it detinated
and put a rod out the side of the block. it was on alky when she come apart. Never had issues on gas
though.

Our group used to run race gas and draw thru carbs. 4LE turbos and an 850 carb with boost reference and big needle and seats. The 301 guys ran girdles and aftermarket pistons. Not positive on the rods but I think some ran factory, might have been heat treated though. Boost was ~40 psi and revs about where you are.

I run a 301 turbo on 110 gas at 6k rpms off the line. Would never run it like that without good rods. Ive got a set of stock rods that were ran like that laying around to remind me not to do that! (bent all to hell) I run around 40-50 lbs boost. Do you have ice box? Injecting anything?

I don't have an ice box, and nothing is injected. Was thinking about water injection but havent done it yet. I run 100 octane aviation gas. I dont run near the boost that you guys are talking. Would and HX35 turbo and a 750 Holley double pumper be a good combo? I was thinking about 25 pounds of boost. Thanks!
