I have an engine that I bought. The pump seems a lot bigger than the p3000 pump I have now. How can if its a p7100? I checked the serial number tag, but it doesn't reference p3000, p7100 or ? |

The P7100 is identical to a P3000 externally from what I've seen. Post a picture of it or tell us what engine its bolted to. |

P7100 has freeze plugs in the bottom and p3000 is just a flat plate. |

PES6P120D410RS7XXX would be a 7100. The barrel flanges at the top are thick forged steel, almost 1/2" thick, the P3000 and smaller have 3/16" thick barrel flanges. And yes, the 7100 and bigger have soft plugs on the bottom, a P3000 and smaller have a cover plate with 12 or so screws. |

Seen a 3000 on a Cat Challenger once that had soft plugs in it. |

Only sure way is to notice the barrel flange. The 7100 and 3000 are noticeably different as Injpumped described. I have soft plugs in the botton of my 12 cylinder p pump, but it also takes the 3000 barrel assemblies. 8600 pumps are easily identified as well. Not only are they all together much larger pumps, they are also plumbed different internally. Every barrel assembly is individually fed in an 8600 whereas the 3000 and 7100 pumps are filled from a common fuel log. Though the difference is on the inside, you can destinguish the two by model specific differences in the housing near the top of the pump. The base of the 8600 is also much larger and rounded on the bottom. |

To the best of my knowledge- all 8600 pumps are chinese built and casted for the purpose of aftermarket replacements and special purpose builds. I have never heard of any mass produced application for that pump. |

Is the 8600 a loosely based P8500? Those were used on Volvo and Macks, and I'm sure some others, but those are the popular ones over here anyway. |

All right I have a real dumb question.
What did a P 7100 come on? What did a P 3000 come on? I've purchased a few pumps from a very large pump shop. was told they could only make the pump I wanted out of a P 7100 pumps I received have plates on bottom. I've had a P 3000 before and the pump was smaller as was the 4 bolt flange so you are really confusing me. |

P7100 came on a LOT of 5.9/8.3L cummins engines in trucks, and the 94-98 dodge pickups, some of the higher hp new generation DT466/530/570, some JD. P3000 pumps were used on 6.6/7.8L Ford Brazillian truck engines. Some industrial 5.9/8.3 used a P3000 with the ag governor also used the P3000. Older JD 4wd tractors used P pumps, but are not technically 3000 series. The true 3000 series has the big 30mm taper on the drive hub part of the cam. The old 4840/8650 etc were 25mm tapered cams. It seems after the 7100 came out, all the smaller p pumps got generically labeled 3000 just because they are very similar. Not too many 7100 parts fit a 3000 and smaller series. |

Mack ran both versions of the p pump. 3000 series are cheap and easily found in bone yards on 300hp mack engines, while 7100's are readily found on the newer macks and fords. I've never had a 8500 pump in my hands, so there relation to the 8600 pump is unknown to me. |
