2255 Oliver axles

Can the planetary axles, bull gear, and ring n pinion be taken off a 2255 rear end housing and regular axle with its bull gear and ring n pinion be install. The axle housing bolt pattern looks to be the same but been awhile since I have been inside to see if the bull gears can be swapped. And if so would the ratio still be close to the same. Just exploring my options. Already have a 2255 chassis set up for pulling with different gears and trying to see if axles can be swapped easily or should I just get a 1955 or 2-105 rearend to start with. |

Looked in my manual and I don't think its gonna work out so easily. Never been inside a 2255 though.
A 1955, 1855, 2-105 any of those should work and a 18 or 2-105 should be easy enough to find |

im looking through agco parts online and looks like it may be possible, looks like they just put a gear over the bull pinion shaft to mate with the smaller bull gear in the 2255. I would have to change everything. Probly be more simple to try and sell my chassis and start out with a 1955, it has an extra bearing support against the ring gear. I was just trying to use my current chassis cause i've already done a bunch of gear changing in the transmission, rear end all stripped, and roll cage on |

Yea it looks like its doable, but when you are done it probably would have been faster, cheaper, and easier to use something else.
And yes the short axles are the way to go. I got the long axles and its hard to get it narrow enough. |

make sure you find one with short axel housings. Other wise you wont get narrow enough to get it in a trailer with 24.5 s on it. If you don't care about enclosed trailer hauling give me a call I have a set of 1955 axles with bull gear and 9 bolt hubs welded on them. 319-231-0550. |

is the housing it self longer? Looked in the parts book and only has one part number for housing but 2 for the axle. Cant the axle just be cut? |

just read where the 1755 axle housings are shorter, is that what you guys are running? |

My 2-85 rear has the short axles. Go with a 1955 or 2-105 rear with the brake housing supports and the ring gear bearing. By the way what kind of gear swap did you do? Also look and see what spline the input shaft has. I think the 1955 you could couple up to the clutch with a solid coupler. |

Yes 1755 axle housings are shorter, I however am running 1855. Little wide but they will work fine with the hubs on the outside of the cast centers. Not so much for weld-ons. |
