Are you pulling naturally aspirated or with a turbo?

390 or 370 injection head is plenty for Natural (Currently running a 330 head maxed out on a 4020/404ci setup) or the 450 would be good for running with a turbo. Also a soft governor spring would help.

How big can you go before you have to do something with the injectors? and then how big before lines need to be bigger too? Will a 330 or 390 head be okay with stock injectors? How much fuel is a maxed out 330 head putting out? With the 330 head are you running a stock transfer pump or do you use an electric pump?

5020's had .370 heads, just like most AC, and IH 361/407's. The .390 was used in some Minnie/Mo applications. I always suggest guys wanting to go with a huge pump, but not touch the injectors need to re-think their plan, and do the injectors first, then the pump. A good way to ruin an expensive, hard to find head & rotor is max it out, and then just put a stock injector with it. Just an all around recipe for disaster.

injpumped, What would you suggest for injectors? Is there a bigger injector tip that can be purchased off the shelf or do I need to have tips made or buy a used set? Currently have the stock 4010 pump maxed out, looking to go to a 370, 5020 pump. Thanks

the bendix style injectors in 4010's can be machined to larger holes, just like most other injectors. Just have to know what is going on when doing so.

I run stock injectors and lines with a maxed out 390 head and to4 turbo. The 45/450 heads for those pumps are really hard to find now. If you run a pump with that head the pump turns hard enough it will break the stock cast cam. If you find a pump with that size head and want to run it, upgrade your camshaft to a billet piece. The stock head on your pump should be a 31, stock 4020 is a 33. The 39 head was used on the 5020. It was non turbo 531 cubic inch and was rated at approx. 150 hp. Almost forgot, I run an electric fuel pump rated for over 100 gals an hour. I bought it at napa. When you have your pump built have the shop put in the electric fuel shut off solenoid, then wire it on the same switch as the fuel pump. I learned that the hard way, I forgot to turn on the electric pump once, ruined a really nice pull.

Thanks for the info, jd4020puller. How much fuel are you putting out with a maxed out 390 head? We have the stock 2 roller, 310 head, maxed out and it's putting out about 110 cc's. I was looking at an old JD pump book and all I saw were 370 heads, no 390 heads, were they upgraded later to a 390 head? Is a 5010/5020 a 2 roller or 4 roller head?

To be honest I am not sure on the rollers but CDS said it was putting out 220cc's.
