"AAR", your answer made me think and restudy my wording of the question. Which as written, you are correct. Bret has a great career and my respect. Even though he goes back quite some time and his roots are Super Stock pulling, Bret is not who I was looking for.

I need to rewrite the question. Who is the first Super Stock puller pulling his own Super Stock tractor earning the "Modified Puller of the Year" award by competing in that 'modfied' class?

Have to go back a few years before Bret started at age sixteen pulling NTPA.

Thanks for everyone's participation. Some really good answers. There were two answers submitted that fit the very early '70's, being Obermeyer and Myre.

"gf1", congratulations. Your answer of Marshall Myre is correct. He was the first ever recipient of the award in 1972. His IH 1466 Super Stock pulled in the 12,000 Open class that found Super Stock's and Modified's pulling together for the first few years of the new NTPA organization.

Now answer this QUESTION. In 1976, Dennis Brabec earned the same award. Since he and brother Allan pulled the potent and many time National champion "Dude", an A-C 180 in the 5000 Super Stock class, he did he qualify to earn the "Modified Puller of the Year" award?
